I agree, dsk's post should become a "Sticky".

It all comes down to patience and most beginners lack that. If you rush any part of the setup that tank is more then likely doomed to fail.

When looking back at my own saltwater posts on various boards, they go back to around 2005. I still don't have a saltwater tank yet...
I have "built" several tanks in the form of parts lists and stocking lists, but I just don't want to make the leap until I can do it right, which I calculate will run me around $2k. In addition, I really would prefer to wait until I have a house with AC, so overheating is not an issue. (Although my AquaController Jr. and a fan have done wonders for my freshwater cooling. I might reconsider that requirement if I feel like I have the 2K to blow.) |

One of the best investments that I have made is a Chiller. With shipment it ran me ~$400 for a 1/10 hp. My tank with a fan would still run up to 85 on a hot day. Now I have it set to come on at 82 and I don't have to worry about it. Last Summer it cost me ~$8 a month in electricity which is cheaper then a six pack of your fav. brew. lol The other months I really don't hear it running at all. maybe once or twice a day for 5-10 mins.
