That is very good information and a wise thing to do. Why do the Sellers sell such big packages of their CUC's?

I like having allot of snails in my AQ. I keep my hermits to about 5 and I only let them get to a certain size and that's it. But snails are another story altogether. I am guessing that I have close to 100 nirite snails and they migrate to and from my DT and my sump.

I use to buy only the largest nirite snails I could find. Then I was doing some research on them and found out that there were two types of these snail. One stays underwater at all time and one that climbs out of the water at night. That was the reason I would find a bunch of them on the carpet in the morning. I stop buying that large type and that cut down on 95 percent of my snails from climbing out. You would get a few that would climb out but those were the ones that would grow up to be the larger type.

Peppermint Shrimp

Nerites are great snails. They are always hard at work and small enough to get into little cracks in the rock work wihhout knocking anything over, they are definately my favorite.Cerith snails are my second favorite. They too stay small and will work the sand as well as rocks and glass.
CUC's are not only great at keeping tanks clean they can also be interesting additions to a tank, especially when the tank is matured and you can add serpent stars(stay away from sand sifting stars they can strip the sandbed.) strombus conch, shrimp, and some types of cucumbers although these pose a risk of releasing toxins.

either one, hermits or snails do great work. If you mix hermits and snails you need to either add shells for the hermits to grow into or get snails smaller than the hermits shell. A snail is no match for a hermit when it comes to fighting for its shell.
