Xenia propogation - one method

Took some shots of my rubber band & toothpick method of my xenia propogation. I'm usually one to pull a stalk from a rock instead of cutting. Often comes off clean for me that way. This one did release a lot of slime and didn't come easy, but it seems to be doing well after 24hrs. My lfs gives me the rock pcs and I get $8 for the xenia frags. He sells them for $25. I frag those at least 2" tall, thick as my baby finger, and having at least 3 branches.

The toothpick & rubberband works for me since the rubberband isn't relied on to hold the xenia. I've found the rubber band directly on the xenia made it split and release from the rock. I puch the rubber band thru the "meaty" part of the bottom of the stalk. Far enuf from the bottom so the tooth pick has some meat/stalk to hold onto. The rock are maybe 2" or larger. Hopefully you can see from the pics how the rubberband is holding onto the tips of the toothpick. And not too tight either.

2 days later, I remove the rubber band and twist the toothpick out. Your mileage may vary.

Same method I use for them. They attach so quickly. I've also been able to superglue them. I have three stalks now that can be fragged. They grew on a rock that I didn't want them to grow on. They grow and spread so fast.

i have also seen xenia fragging done by pulling them off the rock at the base and supergluing them to a rock and using wedding vail rubberbanded around them to hold them on
